Simple Steps To Increasing Productivity In Meetings

There are many reasons why a meeting may not be productive, but what can you do to increase peoples productivity?

Here are my top tips for getting the best out of people and allocated time when planning meetings.

1. ESTABLISH EXPECTATIONS

Begin by asking everyone, individually, what they expect to get out of the time (say one to two minutes max each) and revisit these expectations at the end of the meeting to see if they were met.

2. DIVERGENCE AND CONVERGENCE

Try to allow for a natural conversation pattern of divergence and convergence. Don’t stifle peoples ideas early on, and don’t leave without decisions (or next steps) being made.

3. GET CREATIVE

Rather than just talking, encourage people to communicate ideas physically, by writing or drawing on cards, sticky notes, or whatever works best for you.
